Aġenzija Sapport requires the services of full-time Occupational Therapists (OT) and Speech Language Therapists (SLT) on an indefinite contract basis, within its ACTU Department.
Objectives of the Role
OTs and SLTs occupy valued roles in our Agency’s multi-disciplinary approach, providing a service of quality in all various aspects of the service user’s life together with the rest of the ACTU's multi-disciplinary team. Both professionals shall play a key role in the assessment, provision, and implementation of Assistive Technology (AT) and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) services.
The duties of the Occupational Therapist shall include, but are not limited to:
- Assessing service users’ functional and occupational performance needs to determine appropriate assistive technology solutions.
- Carrying out AT and AAC assessments and interventions as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Recommending and prescribing equipment.
- Managing a caseload of service users requiring assistive technology.
- Adapting and customizing equipment to suit individual needs.
- Evaluating assistive devices and contributing to equipment management.
- Training service users, carers, students, and professionals in the use of assistive technology.
- Providing clinical expertise and advice on assistive technology solutions.
- Contributing to research and innovation in assistive technology.
- Designing or contributing to the development of custom-made assistive equipment where necessary.
On the other hand, the duties of the Speech and Language Therapist shall include, but are not limited to:
- Assessing individuals with complex communication needs for AAC and assistive communication technologies.
- Identifying, recommending, and prescribing suitable AAC devices and communication aids.
- Conducting AAC and AT assessments and developing intervention plans.
- Supporting implementation of communication systems and ensuring effective use by service users.
- Training families, carers, support staff, and other professionals in the use of AAC and assistive technology.
- Evaluating communication devices and monitoring their effectiveness.
- Collaborating with Occupational Therapists, technical staff, educators, and healthcare professionals.
- Maintaining clinical documentation, prescription reports, and recommendation reports related to AT and AAC.
- Providing mentoring, supervision, and specialist consultation regarding AAC.
- Participating in research, service development, and promotion of assistive technology services.

Requisites
Eligible candidates shall be in possession of the following:
- In possession of a recognised qualification at MQF Level 6 (subject to a minimum of 180 ECTS / ECVET credits or equivalent*) in Occupational Therapy/Speech Language Therapy or an equivalent, recognised comparable qualification; AND
- In possession of a certificate of registration in Occupational Therapy/Speech Language Therapy by the Council for Professions Complimentary to Medicine in Malta.
*A recognized qualification comparable to 180 ECTS/ECVET credits, as applicable, is only accepted subject to an MQRIC formal recognition statement being submitted with the application.
Candidates who have not yet formally obtained or are not yet approved for the qualification specified above will still be considered provided that they submit evidence that they are in the final phase of their course leading to such qualification. Successful applicants must obtain, or be approved, for the award of such qualification. If the stipulated deadline for the attainment of such qualification is not met, the agreement will be, for this reason, automatically terminated.
Furthermore, candidates who are currently following a recognised programme of study at a higher MQF level than that requested above will also be considered. Such candidates are to submit evidence that they have successfully completed the necessary ECTS/ECVET credits, or equivalent, and attained the required MQF level, by the closing time and date of the call for applications. Prospective applicants should note the requirement to produce MQRIC recognition statements in respect of their qualifications from MQRIC, or other designated authorities, as applicable, as per provisions applicable to this call for applications.
